Big Frank's Fire Truck

By Leslie McGuire

Read this with my first graders and they were extremely interested all the way through. They had a load of questions and they were interested to learn more.

That got me thinking … so the following day I changed all of our lessons to be entirely firefighter themed. We read the book again in the morning, we used it for individual reading practice, new vocab, math we counted firedogs, hoses and helmets. We even checked out YouTube videos featuring a range of firefighter related content. They were especially interested in the vehicles 🚒 so for art class we drew fire trucks 🚒 .

Amazing how a single book can inspire an entire day of learning 📖🧠
This book follows Big Frank on his shift at the fire station. It’s a busy day for Frank with all kinds of action, but it’s all in a day’s work for a firefighter 👨‍🚒

The illustrations are fantastic and compliment the text perfectly. I would recommend for first grade and up. Keep in mind, there’s so much info in here you might lose the younger kids. It covers most aspects of a firefighter’s job and is presented beautifully. Highly recommend it!
